How to choose the right luggage option

If your bag is a normal cabin-size suitcase and you only need storage for the day, a station locker is usually the simplest choice. If collection time matters, confirm that the locker area will still be open when you return.

Option 1: Coin lockers at Kanazawa Station

Coin lockers are convenient because no reservation or conversation is required. The current official guide says payment is available with cash and major Japanese transportation IC cards such as Suica and ICOCA.

Local planning tip: Take a photo of the locker number, surrounding signs and the nearest entrance. Kanazawa Station connects several shopping areas, and “I will remember where it is” is less reliable after a full day of sightseeing.

  • Confirm the locker-area opening hours—not every locker bank is accessible 24 hours.

Option 2: Staffed storage for oversized luggage

The staffed left-luggage counter is near Anto East Entrance, close to the JR ticket-office area. It is the practical fallback for luggage that does not fit in a locker. The official guide also lists items such as bicycles, golf bags, ski equipment, strollers and wheelchairs as accepted categories, subject to the counter’s conditions.

Because the counter does not accept reservations, travelers arriving during busy periods should keep a reservable alternative in mind.

Option 3: Reserve luggage storage in advance

If uncertainty would disrupt your itinerary, an advance reservation can be more valuable than saving a few hundred yen. The official Kanazawa guide currently identifies an ecbo cloak location inside Rinto at the Nippon Travel Agency Tis Kanazawa Branch. Its listed service requires online booking and payment, and the hours and closure day are more limited than the 24-hour lockers.

Reservation platforms and participating stores can change. Confirm the exact drop-off point, final pickup time, cancellation terms and accepted luggage before payment on the provider’s current booking page.

Option 4: Send your luggage to your hotel

Travelers staying at an eligible hotel or ryokan can ask about same-day baggage delivery at the Kanazawa Station Tourist Information Centre. According to the official guide, delivery covers eligible accommodations in Kanazawa City as well as some locations in Noto, the Kaga hot-spring area and Awara City.

Do not repeatedly wait at the same locker bank. Work through the alternatives in this order:

Check another station locker area.
A, B and C account for most of the lockers listed by the official guide, but availability changes continuously.
Try the staffed left-luggage counter.
This is especially useful if your suitcase is too large for the remaining lockers.
Search a reservation service.
A booked space is safer than travelling to another unconfirmed locker location.
Use a central-city option.
If your first destination is Omicho Market, Korinbo or the samurai district, storage outside the station may fit your route better.
Ask your accommodation.
Many hotels hold luggage before check-in or after checkout, but policies vary—contact your own property directly.

Luggage storage near Omicho Market and central Kanazawa

The official tourism guide currently lists a reservable storage location close to the M’ZA entrance of Omicho Market. The Kanazawa Central Tourist Information Center, near many central hotels and attractions, also lists baggage storage and delivery among its services.
